1. At the end of Book 1 of the Republic Socrates says:
So how does Socrates arrive at the conclusion that injustice can never be more profitable than justice?
At the beginning of Book 2 Glaucon makes an argument against Socrates’
view of justice that culminates with the following quote:
“Then the many are of another mind; they think that justice is to be reckoned in the troublesome class, among goods which are to be pursued for the sake of rewards and of reputation, but in themselves are disagreeable and rather to be avoided.”
Give a brief explanation of the point Glaucon is trying to make here.
