This assignment will require you to develop three sections:

1) an introduction section that highlights the relevant empirically-based literature and ends with

your proposed research question; For the Introduction section, you are to use the extant literature to

support. Further, use of quotes should be avoided and, instead, content should be paraphrased. Only use

quotes when the content cannot be stated more succinctly and clearly in a paraphrased form and even then

quotes need to be used very sparingly. See APA for guidance on using quotes (see pp. 269-278 of the

APA Publication Manual 7th edition for guidance and direction) and the handout provided in the

course files in Canvas on plagiarism. Finally, the literature review must contain empirically based studies.

Conceptually or theoretically based articles should only be used to provide broad content or context

where necessary. If your literature review relies too much on conceptual or theoretical articles, then you

cannot justify the need for this study and points will be deducted.

2) a methods section (similar to what you will be learning in class and from your article

critiques);For the methods section, you are required to provide detailed information on the participants,

instruments, and procedures you are using for this proposed study. These three subsections should

directly relate to your research question and research design. The method section should clearly connect

the introduction to the results and provide a “road map” for how the study will be conducted and how the

variables will be measured. You are required to use existing measures that demonstrate sound

psychometric properties (i.e., reliability and validity). You need to demonstrate a rationale for the

sampling method, the sample size to be used, inclusion/exclusion criteria, how participants are to be

selected, and any other pertinent information. The instruments section must detail the measures used for

your study and should include details on the number of instrument items, scoring, relevant subscales,

psychometric properties of the instrument, and any other pertinent information. The procedures section

must detail how you plan to conduct the study and should align with your research design.

3) a results section (that will include the proposed research design, statistical analysis, and

limitations).

For the results section, you will be required to establish the research design and statistical analysis. The

design should align with the research question and a rationale needs to be stated as to why this design is

the best design considering other rival designs that exist. You are also to identify the statistical analysis to

be used to answer the research question. Similar to the research design, you need to provide a rationale for

this analysis. Again, for your research design and statistical analysis, you must provide a rationale for

each and this rationale must have citation support. The paper must strictly adhere to APA Publication

Manual (7th ed.) guidelines. Failure to follow these format guidelines will result in a reduction of

points on the paper (see rubric)

All papers must be submitted to Turnitin.com located on the CE500 Canvas site under assignments.

Once the paper is submitted, you are to attach the first page of the similarity score sheet as the last

page of your proposal (Only include the 1st page of the similarity score sheet and not the paper you

submitted to Turnitin.com or points will be deducted. To do this, view your paper in Turnitin and click on

the text only option at the bottom of the page). The turnitin sheet will not count toward the 8-10 pages.

Papers not including a Turnitin similarity score sheet will be deducted points. Due to the

technological restrictions that I am imposing, all papers must be submitted to Turnitin no later than

5:00 p.m. the day prior to the assignment due date. Prior to this deadline, you are permitted to

resubmit three (3) times and get immediate feedback from Turnitin regarding concerns with

plagiarized content or other citation issues. After the 3rd resubmission, you will be required to wait

rubric is provided at the end of the syllabus. Final papers will be submitted electronically to the

Research Proposal Assignment on Canvas.

Research Proposal Information and Guidelines

a. Your paper must have the following elements:

Title page; Introduction section;

Methods section (will include the Research question(s)) with a section for participants, instruments,

and procedures;

Results section (this section will include Research design and Statistical Analysis sections (what type

of research design and statistical analysis best answers your research question);

Limitations section (identify the limitations of this proposed study—do not put in future research);

References.

For the participant section, you need to identify who you will sampled and why (inclusion and exclusion

criteria must be identified where applicable), sampling method(s) you plan to use and why, how you plan

to gather your participants, information from your power analysis, how many participants you will need,

and any other pertinent information related to this study.

For the instrument section, you will need to identify which instruments you plan to use to answer the

RQ. You need to provide a description of the instrument, why you are using it, what it is intended to

measure, subscales, number of items, scoring information (i.e., theoretical range of scores, what does a

high and low score tell one, etc.), and psychometric information specifically reliability and validity data.

Procedure section should clearly lay out how you plan to conduct the study, including steps for

conducting the study, any follow-up procedures, etc. Your procedures must align with the method of data

collection and the design you will be using.

In the results section, start this section restating your research question. You will also propose a research

design and provide a rationale for how this design will go about addressing the RQ you proposed. Your

rationale must be clearly stated and supported using the literature. Finally, you will propose a statistical

analysis to answer your RQ. Again, you will need to provide a rationale for why you are using this

statistic to answer your question.

b. Your paper will rely on existing literature; therefore, you will want to research a topic that has

a substantial amount of current information.

c. You want to make sure that every reference cited in text is also included in the references and vice

versa.

d. Use relevant sources such as peer reviewed journal articles, books, book chapters, current

unpublished dissertations/theses, and current conference papers. This assignment, if done properly, will

include citations throughout the paper. For this assignment, use current resources (past 15 years).

e. Use other databases not just the Psychology databases. Go to other disciplines (e.g., Pubmed,

social science databases, etc.) to see if there is any cross-discipline research.
