For the third assignment, each student is required to lead the class discussion on the topic based on the research-based presentation for approximately 30 – 40 minutes. The presentation must be approved by the instructor. You are required to summarize the ideas during the presentation and be prepared to answer questions. The individual or group during the presentation should raise questions for class discussion and utilize (if you wish) instructional methods (e.g. interviews, YouTube videos, skits, etc.,) to support your conclusions demonstrate points made that will enhance/facilitate class learning.

RESEARCH-BASED OPPRESSION AND LIBERATION PRESENTATION GUIDELINES
The third assignment requires students to conduct a research-based presentation on a specific population that has experienced a history of discrimination and oppression in this country. Students must critically describe and analyze the manifestations of this oppression on the selected population. The analysis must clearly point out (1) the types and various faces of oppression, discrimination, and social and economic inequality; (2) the group that is the target of this discrimination and oppression; (3) the group(s) that perpetrate and perpetuate the various forms of discrimination and oppression, and (4) how the members of the oppressed group attempts to survive and thrive under such discriminatory conditions. This requires that students specifically answer the following questions: (a) What societal attitudes and values have contributed to the differential treatment of this group? (b) What are the origins and historical development of discrimination and oppression aimed at this group? (c) What effect has this discrimination and oppression had on members of this group in terms of their social, economic, political, psychological, and physical well-being? and (d) What viable strategies or techniques of intervention can social workers, including social work organizations employ to reduce or eliminate discrimination and oppression against this group? You need to clearly identify and describe these strategies or techniques that you would use as an intervention with this group/population.
