Exercise Program for Yourself or a Client: Case Study presentation

It is very important that students can write an exercise program for themselves or a particular client based on the ability to assess the physical fitness level of the individual client according to established guidelines and to determine personalized goals and motivations. Therefore, students will demonstrate their abilities in this area by working with their own goals or the goals of a client of their choice.

1. Students will work with a refined personal fitness goal or choose a case study client/participant. Participants may be members of the health and human performance program, members of the university community, or other persons known to the studentthat are willing to volunteer given social distancing guidelines.

2. Students are asked to write an exercise program for the next 4 weeks for the client. The program should be presented in a schematic format. For example:

Goals: Client would like to prepare for a 5K by December 15 and is @a “moderate” cardio fitness level based on 1mile jog. Client is highly motivated by participation in local run club (social, team cohesion motivation) and will continue to participate in club activities.

Health history data, PARQ, risk factor analysis, and informed consent

Heart rate and blood pressure

Body composition:

Body weight, BMI, body composition, circumferences, recommended body weight

Cardiovascular endurance:1 mile walk/jog, YMCA bike

Muscular strength:

10RM, 1RM, isometric hold times for strength analysis

Muscular endurance:

ACSM curl-up and push-up OR selected RTF test

Flexibility:

Sit and reach test

Shoulder flexibility test

Power test such as Wingate or jump test.

Balance, agility, speed, or coordination test.
