7. What are some of the most effective problem-solving methods you use to resolve problems on the job, and can you provide a few specific examples?

8.As you consider your previous jobs or experiences, what entry level skills did you gain that help you in your current position, and what advice would you give to people who are just starting out and wanting to advance in their careers in general?

9. How important is networking in your line of work, and how do you go about building a professional network in person and online?

Reflection I: Informational Interviewing & Networking

Explain specifically why you interviewed this particular professional and describe how their background/position ties in with your career focus.What elements of the interview were most beneficial to you, and how will you use information from the interview experience as you continue to plan and prepare for your career? Why might it be valuable for you conduct similar information gathering interviews in the future? Your response should be a minimum of 10 complete sentences.

Reflection II:Networking and Goal Setting

Item A: Networking

After completing the Unit 8 Reading, take some time to seriously think about your current professional network and rate the strength of your network on a scale of 1–5. Make sure to explain why you selected your rating. {1 = just getting started on first degree contacts; 2 = making some progress with first degree contacts; 3 = good progress with first degree contacts, just getting started with second degree contacts; 4 = good progress with first degree contacts, making some progress with second degree contacts; and 5 = firmly established with first and second degree contacts, making some progress with third degree contacts.}

Item B: Networking

Once you have rated your network, take time to describe your current first, second, and third-degree contacts. Use the Networking Contact Chart located in the Unit 8 Reading as you prepare to respond to this item.

Item C: Goal Setting

Carefully consider the suggestions included in the Unit 8 Reading for strengthening or building your network and think in terms of the progress you would like to make with your network in the next 3–6 months. Set one networking goal for yourself and explain how you will achieve that goal by applying the S.M.A.R.T. goal setting strategy. Make sure to specifically refer to each of the five S.M.A.R.T. elements outlined in the Unit 7 Reading.

Item D: Problem Solving

Review your S.M.A.R.T. strategy and identify one possible problem you could encounter that would prevent you from reaching your networking goal. Apply the “DO IT!” strategy as you propose a plan for overcoming the problem. Make sure to specifically refer to each of the five elements of the “DO IT!” strategy outlined in the Unit 8 Reading.
