Addressing the Poverty in The Central African Republic
The most viable solution to alleviate poverty in the country of Central African Republic is to increase the literacy rate of its citizens. Education is the only lasting solution that will enable the inhabitants of this country to escape poverty. At the moment, only 37.4% of the population aged 15 years and older are literate in the country (United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization, n.d.). This is extremely low and is a contributing factor towards poverty. The objective tree analysis provided in Figure 1 below showcases the various avenues that can be explored to facilitate the achievement of this proposed solution. The specific objective that this project has opted to go with is the provision of equal opportunities for education to all. Endeavoring to achieve this objective will ensure that all segments of the population, ranging from the youth to even older adults are given an opportunity to acquire education that will enable them to venture into the job market. It is a wholesome approach that will ultimately transform the Central African Republic into a nation of enterprising, hardworking citizens.

The Solution Statement
Increasing the literacy rate of the citizens of the Central African Republic will address the problem of poverty by equipping them with the necessary skill sets required to qualify for well-paying jobs in the domestic, regional, and international market.
The Solution Validation
The Central African Republic has a very low internet penetration rate of only 4.3% (The World Bank, n.d.). This means that any effort to use online tools as a validation mechanism will not yield viable results. Therefore, this project will rely on two local partners representing non-governmental organizations operating in the rural areas of the country for validation of the proposed solution. These are Plan International and ACTED. Two representatives from these local partners helped conduct a survey in the local communities asking people about their willingness to participate in education if it was provided to them. There were 5 questions in the survey as shown in Figure 2. The responses showcased a general interest in education across all age groups. They all understood the value of education in helping their communities rise out of poverty. This feedback helped validate the project’s Minimal Viable Product (MVP) and ascertain that the proposed solution is right for the local communities to fight back against poverty.
Figure 2: The MVP
The two local representatives from Plan International and ACTED served as the main interviewees for this project. Their history working with the local communities on matters pertaining to education made them the right candidates. They stated emphatically that access to education is the main challenge that undermines the ability of families to rise out of poverty. They attested to the presence of growing enthusiasm towards education especially among the young generation because it is the only key to having a successful life. Therefore, the provision of equal opportunities for education to all citizens of the Central African Republic is a welcomed solution. The interviewees praised this effort because it did not alienate specific segments of the population. Instead, it sought to ensure that efforts are made to give people an opportunity to learn a skill or acquire an education that is perfectly suited to improve their living standards. Partnering with local, regional, and international partners to achieve this goal is necessary to help increase the literacy of the citizens of the Central African Republic and ultimately assist them overcome the menace of poverty.
