Topic: Probability and counting rules; Discrete probability distributions ( DUE TOMORROW)

Recall the car data set you identified in Week 2. You will want to calculate the average for your data set. (Be sure you use the numbers without the supercar outlier) Once you have the average count how many of your data points fall below the average. You will take that number and divide it by 10. This will be your p or “success” in your problem. Once you have p, calculate q.

If you were to find another random sample of 10 cars based on the same data, what is the probability that exactly 4 of them will fall below the average? Make sure you interpret your results.

If you were to find another random sample of 10 cars based on the same data, what is the probability that fewer than 5 of them will fall below the average? Make sure you interpret your results.

If you were to find another random sample of 10 cars based on the same data, what is the probability that more than 6 of them will fall below the average? Make sure you interpret your results.

If you were to find another random sample of 10 cars based on the same data, what is the probability that at least 4 of them will fall below the average? Make sure you interpret your results.

I encourage you to review the Week 3 Binomial probabilities PDF at the bottom of the forum. This will give you a step by step example to follow and show you how to find probabilities using Excel. You can also use this PDF in the Tests&Quizzes tab.

There are additional PDFs that were created to help you with the Homework, Lessons and Tests in the Tests&Quizzes tab.. While they won’t be used to answer the questions in the discussion forum, they are just as useful and beneficial. I encourage you to review these ASAP! These PDFs are also located at the bottom of the forum.

Instructions: Your initial post should be at least 150 words.

Week 3: Ethical Theories and The Trolley Problem ( DUE TOMORROW)

This week’s lesson discussed some well-established ethical theories and their arguments. Consider and comment on the following questions:

1. Which of the ethical theories discussed in this week’s lesson is most appealing to you? Are any of the theories morally superior to any of the others? Explain your answers.

2. Respond to the Trolley Problem discussed in this week’s lesson. What would you do and why? On which ethical theory would you rely? Would your answer change based on the identities of the people on each side of the switch-track (i.e. your friends and family vs. convicted criminals vs. complete strangers, etc.)? Also, remember that you are not responsible for the circumstances that have imperiled the five people on the track toward which the trolley is initially heading, but if you intervene and switch tracks, then in doing so you make a deliberate choice that ends the life of a person. This is the classic distinction between action and omission, but does this matter in terms of ethics and what you would do?

Instructions: The goal of the discussions is to have a robust, informative, and reflective interaction about course topics. Learning is directly related to effort put forth toward discussion engagement and participation. In order to encourage active and quality participation that adds value and increases learning, the grade you earn will be higher as your participation and quality of content increases. Please post at least two substantive replies to classmates or your instructor for full credit consideration. Refer to the grading rubric for specific guidelines.

You are expected to participate during the current week’s discussion. Contact your instructor in cases of emergency or uncontrollable circumstances.
